
Andrew Moreno is a Rotterdam based Venezuelan guitarist, composer and human being.
Andrew has been performing internationally in Europe, America, Africa and Asia. Most of his work it’s based on the dualism of intricate composed material and free improvisation in non-idiomatic enviroments. Some of his active projects include his Netherlands Based Trio “Axiom”, Vortex Kollectief, De-Construct (Otto Rissanen), PIN, duos with Laura Drion, and most recently, the upcoming debut album with his own composed work “Axiom” to be released in May 9th along with the british label Honolulu Records featuring Tineke Postma, Bo Van Der Werf, Tristan Renfrow and Jonathan Ho.
From the age of 09 years old he decided to venture into music on his own, delving into the jazz scene in Caracas, Venezuela. This led him to play with different groups and orchestras as a solid member all around Venezuela over three years (2016-2018). One of these orchestra's were the Simón Bolívar Big Band Jazz from the Simón Bolívar Conservatory which is part of El Sistema.
At the age of 18 he decided to go to live in Spain due to the political-economic crisis in his country, this eventually led him to perform in numerous concerts with a diverse range of musical genres such as jazz, rock, free improvised music among many others. After some time he made a successful career as a full time side-man in Spain and then he decided to pursue academic studies and he got admitted to the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) to get his bachelor's degree in Jazz Guitar and currently doing his masters degree in Jazz Performance in Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
Since 2020 he has been mentored by musicians like Peter Bernstein, Larry Goldings, Bill Frisell, Nelson Veras, Lage Lund, Stefan Lievestro and Reinier Baas. Andrew has played all around the world in several continents with artists such as Miles Okazaki, Brian Charette, Bo Van Der Werf, Tineke Postma, Jasper Blom, Jasper Stadhouders, Ernst Glerum, John Dikeman, Jonathon Haffner, Andrés Briceño, Ada Rave, Tristan Renfrow, Theo Jörgensmann among many others.
He also has been performing actively in venues such as Loft Koeln (DE), De Doelen (NL), Bimhuis (NL), Tivoli Vredenburg (NL), Brebl (NL), Spatif (PL) Sounds (BE). Paradox (NL) to name some few.
He also made headlines playing several festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (2022-2024), Injazz (2022), Whats Next (2021), Breda Jazz Festival (2021) Gratchen Jazz Festival (2022), North Sea Around Town (2022-2024) and many others. On 2024 he also won with his trio winning a 3000-euro prize and a headline in North Sea Jazz Festival on the same year.
Andrew Moreno "Axiom" will be doing a two-month residency in Hangzhou, China at GOOD CHA JAZZ CLUB HANGZHOU during september-august 2025.
